In a major breakthrough against espionage activities, the Punjab Police have arrested an Indian Army soldier and his civilian aide for allegedly leaking sensitive military information to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The arrests were made during an intelligence-led operation, officials confirmed.
Accused Identified as Gurpreet Singh and Sahil Masih
According to Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, the arrested Army personnel has been identified as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Dhariwal in Amritsar,currently serving in the Indian Army and posted in Jammu. His civilian associate, Sahil Masih, also hails from Dhariwal.
Sensitive Information Allegedly Shared via Pen Drives
During preliminary investigations, it was revealed that Gurpreet Singh had been in direct contact with ISI operatives and is suspected of having shared classified military information through pen drives and discs. Two mobile phones with virtual numbers, believed to have been used for communication with ISI handlers, were recovered from the duo.
Dubai-Based Drug Trafficker Acted as Middleman
Police sources believe that a Dubai-based drug trafficker named Arjan, originally from Dhariwal, played a pivotal role in introducing Gurpreet Singh to ISI operatives nearly five months ago. The case is now being seen as part of a larger espionage-cum-terror network involving narcotics and intelligence sharing.
ISI Handler Identified as Rana Javed
According to DGP Yadav, the ISI handler has been identified as Rana Javed, and further investigations are underway to track down other members of the network. with a special focus on the terror-narcotics-espionage nexus operating from across the border. Law enforcement agencies are also coordinating with national intelligence to ensure tighter vigilance in sensitive military areas, particularly along the India-Pakistan border.
