The newly announced Union Territory after the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir, celebrated Independence Day with fervour on Thursday, with the local BJP MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal saying that region has got “independence from Kashmir”.

A video showing a teacher thrashing students in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir went viral on Thursday as authorities promised action against the teacher.
The video shows the teacher assaulting the students for being late by 10 minutes for the class at a hostel for tribal Gujjar and nomadic Bakarwal children in Doda district.
Officials said the teacher should have adopted persuasive means rather than resorting to corporal punishment.
“The teacher has confessed after he was shown the video. We have ordered an inquiry and action would be taken under rules,” officials said.
In order to prevent discarding plastic water bottles at will, a plastic bottle collection machine has been installed at Govt. Hospital, Bust Stand, Jana Park, Sula Park and Nai Basti in Reasi, Jammu Division.
After dropping the bottle, the person is required to enter their mobile number, following which they will get a cash incentive of Rs 1 in their Paytm account.
The video has been posted by Daily Excelsior on its Social Media page showcasing a recycling plastic bottles machine installed in Govt. Hospital , Reasi.

Dharmal is a village situated in the mountainous Dudo zone of Basantgar teshil in Udhampur district, situated nearly 180 km from Jammu. The group of 14 students which has created this video belongs to the marginalised section of society but it succeeded in spreading its message across the world by singing the traditional Dogri ‘paakh’.
People of a village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district are getting a road constructed for the first time. Villagers from Marta Panchayat were waiting for road since independence reported by Times Of India.
Locals faced a lot of problems due to poor condition of roads. Students had to walk through fields for about 6-7 kilometers to reach their school. The work of road construction is done under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

A 73-year-old man from the village expressed his happiness over the road construction. He said, ‘As a child, I’ve been told that a road would be constructed in the village but it took years. Now when I am getting my old-age pension, we finally got the road.’
