In a major escalation along the Line of Control (LoC), the Pakistan Army launched intense shelling on civilian areas in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district early Wednesday, following a late-night operation by the Indian Armed Forces that destroyed multiple terror infrastructure sites deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
According to sources, the Indian military struck terror camps, training centers, and headquarters of various terrorist outfits operating from across the border. The precise strikes reportedly caused significant damage to militant infrastructure.
Frustrated by the Indian offensive, the Pakistan Army began heavy artillery and mortar shelling around 2 AM, directly targeting Poonch town, Mendhar, Mankote, Thandi Kassi, and several other civilian areas near the LoC. The shelling continued intermittently until 11 AM, causing widespread panic, casualties, and property damage.
Gurudwara, Homes Damaged; Civilians Injured
Among the structures damaged was the prominent Gurudwara Singh Sabha in Poonch, along with several homes and shops in its vicinity. Civilians suffered injuries during the
bombardment, and multiple residential houses were partially or completely damaged.
“Mortars started raining in Poonch town around 2 AM. It was terrifying — the sound of explosions echoed through the hills, and people were caught completely off guard,” said a local resident. Police and local volunteers began evacuation and rescue operations in the dead of night, though continued shelling made the task perilous.
Residents Describe Night of Horror
Locals described the shelling as “barbaric and cowardly”, emphasizing that Poonch town had not witnessed such attacks in recent years.
