In the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, senior police officials led by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Shridhar Patil conducted a comprehensive security audit of key tourist destinations in the Jammu region on Wednesday.
The DIG, accompanied by senior police officers from Ramban district, visited Patnitop, Nathatop, and Sanasar — all popular hill stations that draw thousands of tourists annually. Known for their scenic beauty and remote forested terrain, these areas had minimal security presence prior to the recent incidents.
During the visit, Patil interacted with local residents to assess the ground situation and reassure them of the administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety of tourists and locals alike.
Stakeholder Meeting Emphasises Coordination
“As part of the visit, the DIG held an interactive meeting with hotel owners, trekking groups, sarpanches, and other community members,” a police official confirmed to local media agency. “He outlined the new security measures being adopted to protect the public and uphold law and order.”
Officials from the Patnitop Development Authority and Tourism Department were also present during the audit.
Enhanced Surveillance and Law Enforcement Discussed
The police delegation evaluated current security installations and discussed additional reinforcements. Strategies to improve coordination between the police and civil administration, as well as surveillance enhancements, were key talking points.
DIG Patil highlighted the importance of safeguarding these remote but significant tourist sites, especially as the region prepares for the upcoming peak tourist season.
Particular attention was paid to Sanasar, a remote meadow near Patnitop, which previously lacked a formal security presence. Nathatop, another major attraction known for its panoramic views of snow-capped peaks, was also reviewed for potential upgrades in security arrangements.
Patil was joined by SSP Ramban, DSP Headquarters Ramban, SHOs of Batote and Kud, along with other officials.
