On Monday, Rather reiterated that democracy allows differences of opinion but stressed the need for mutual respect and avoidance of unnecessary confrontation. He confirmed that the 27-day-long Budget Session would include two daily sittings during its first half till February 19, ensuring adequate time for discussions and debates.
Umar Government Faces Political and Financial Challenges
The Omar Abdullah-led government faces a tough balancing act during the session. It must navigate pressure from the BJP, which holds strong influence in the Jammu region, and the PDP, a key Kashmir-based party. Adding to the challenge is Jammu and Kashmir’s heavy dependence on the Centre for financial resources.
With the BJP in power at the Centre and sitting in opposition in J&K, the government is expected to adopt a cautious approach—seeking solutions by assuring engagement with the Centre while avoiding direct political confrontation. Sources indicate that the government may repeatedly underline that fulfilling election promises requires financial support and that efforts are underway to secure necessary assistance from New Delhi.
