Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s highly anticipated visit to Jammu and Kashmir, originally scheduled for April 19, has been postponed. This delay has also impacted the inauguration of the Srinagar-Katra Vande Bharat Express and the Udhampur-Katra-Banihal-Srinagar Rail Link Project, both key infrastructure milestones for the region.
Bad Weather Forces Postponement of Vande Bharat Launch
According to sources close to the event preparations, the decision to postpone the inauguration and the Prime Minister’s visit was made following alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The forecast predicted heavy rainfall and inclement weather conditions in Katra and surrounding areas on April 18 and 19.
The Prime Minister was expected to flag off the inaugural run of the Vande Bharat train from Katra to Srinagar on April 19. This symbolic moment was set to mark a historic achievement in connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India through high-speed rail. Thousands of people had been eagerly waiting to witness and participate in the first run of the Vande Bharat Express to Kashmir.
Vande Bharat Train to Kashmir: Fully Ready, Awaiting New Date
Despite the postponement of the formal ceremony, railway authorities have confirmed that all logistical and operational preparations are complete. The Vande Bharat Express is already stationed in Katra, ready for deployment.
This next-gen train aims to offer faster, safer, and more comfortable travel through the mountainous terrains of Jammu and Kashmir.
Official Confirmation and Railway Statements
Though initial responses from Jammu-based railway officials indicated no official communication regarding the cancellation, Chief Area Manager (CAM), Kashmir – Mr. Saqib Yousuf Yatoo (IRTS) – later confirmed that the Prime Minister’s visit and the inauguration event had indeed been postponed to Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
As of now, no revised date has been announced for the event or the commencement of the Vande Bharat service to Kashmir.
