In a major relief for students, parents, and teachers, the Jammu and Kashmir government has extended winter vacations for all government and private schools in the Summer Zones of Jammu Division till January 14, 2026, citing severe weather conditions.
A senior education official confirmed that the decision was taken on the directions of the Education Minister, keeping in view the prevailing cold wave, inclement weather, and related safety concerns. The move aims to ensure the well-being of students during the ongoing harsh winter spell.

“The extension has been granted after reviewing the current weather situation and other relevant factors,” the official said.
The order applies to all educational institutions—government as well as private—falling under the Summer Zone and is issued in continuation of the Winter Vacation Order No. 458-DSEJ of 2025 dated December 13, 2025.
Authorities clarified that any further instructions regarding the reopening of schools will be communicated separately, depending on weather conditions in the coming days.
This extension has come as a welcome step for families across the region, as temperatures continue to remain low, impacting daily life and mobility.
