For the first time, two fast bowlers from Jammu and Kashmir grabbed the spotlight at the IPL auction, proving that talent from the region can compete with the best in the country. The moment marked a turning point for J&K cricket, which has steadily gained recognition through consistent domestic performances.

Auqib Nabi Dar Becomes One of the Costliest Domestic Picks

Auqib Nabi Dar, a right-arm fast bowler from Sheeri village in Baramulla district of North Kashmir, scripted history after Delhi Capitals picked him for a massive ₹8.40 crore. Starting at a modest base price, the 29-year-old uncapped pacer triggered an intense bidding war before Delhi Capitals secured his services.

This landmark deal made Auqib one of the most expensive Indian domestic players at this year’s IPL auction. His selection reflects the growing respect for Jammu and Kashmir’s pace bowling talent on the national stage.

As news of Auqib’s IPL selection spread, celebrations erupted in his hometown of Sheeri. Family members, neighbours, and well-wishers gathered to distribute sweets, offer prayers, and celebrate the historic achievement. Locals described the moment as a matter of pride not just for Baramulla, but for the entire Kashmir Valley.

Auqib’s father, Ghulam Nabi Dar, expressed his happiness, calling the achievement a dream come true and the result of years of dedication and hard work. Sports enthusiasts in North Kashmir echoed similar sentiments and hoped to see Auqib represent India at the international level soon.

Auqib Nabi’s Impressive Domestic Cricket Record

Auqib’s IPL selection came on the back of outstanding domestic performances. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he claimed 15 wickets in seven matches with an economy rate of 7.41. His Ranji Trophy record remains even more remarkable, with 29 wickets in nine innings, including three five-wicket hauls.

He delivered a career-best performance of 7 for 24 against Rajasthan, playing a crucial role in Jammu and Kashmir’s qualification for the 2025–26 season. During the 2024–25 Ranji season, he topped India’s list of seamers with 44 wickets at an average of just 13.93. His four wickets in four balls in the Duleep Trophy further underlined his match-winning ability.

Brijesh Sharma Earns IPL Call-Up with Rajasthan Royals

Adding to the historic moment, Brijesh Sharma, a 27-year-old fast bowler from Dandial in Udhampur district, earned a ₹30 lakh contract with Rajasthan Royals at the TATA IPL Auction in Abu Dhabi. Trained under the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association, Brijesh represented the region in U-19 and U-25 tournaments before moving outside the Union Territory to explore better opportunities.

Currently playing in the Bengal Pro T20 League, Brijesh credited his family, coaches, and friends for standing by him throughout his journey.

Brijesh’s journey reflects resilience and determination. He completed his schooling in Udhampur and left college to pursue cricket full-time. Coming from a modest background, he never allowed financial challenges to limit his ambition. Having played alongside IPL stars like Umran Malik and Abdul Samad, Brijesh now aims to improve cricket infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir and create better opportunities for future players.

The IPL selection of Auqib Nabi Dar and Brijesh Sharma marks a proud chapter for Jammu and Kashmir cricket. Their success proves that talent from the region can rise through hard work, discipline, and belief. More importantly, their journey will inspire a new generation of young cricketers to dream big and aim higher.
