The Crime Branch Kashmir (CBK) has arrested a man accused of posing as an Impersonator Duty Officer to the Lieutenant Governor and duping several people of more than ₹50 lakh through fake promises of government jobs and land allotments.

In an official statement on x.com , the accused was identified as Abdul Majid Mir, son of Abdul Rahim Mir, a resident of Lishtiyal, Kupwara. He was arrested in connection with FIR No. 10/2025, registered at the Economic Offences Wing of CBK.

Investigations revealed that Mir lured unsuspecting complainants by offering them government jobs and land in the SDA Colony, Bemina. To strengthen his deception, he allegedly issued:

  • Forged appointment letters under the name of the Airport Authority of India.
  • Fabricated land allotment papers, purportedly from the Srinagar Development Authority (SDA).

CBK has registered offences under sections 419, 420, 467, 468, and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused. He was presented before the Court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Srinagar, which has granted a five-day police remand for further investigation.

Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and not fall prey to fraudsters offering jobs, land allotments, or other government benefits in exchange for money. They stressed that all official appointments and land allotments are made strictly through authorized government procedures.
