Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha presided over the 73rd Meeting of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) at Raj Bhawan. The SMVDSB remains committed in its mission to modernize and elevate the pilgrimage experience at the sacred Vaishno Devi shrine. With a focus on accessibility, safety, and comfort for millions of devotees, the board is implementing innovative digital solutions and undertaking major infrastructural upgrades. These efforts are transforming the shrine and its surrounding areas, ensuring a seamless and enriching journey for pilgrims. Here’s an overview of the latest initiatives and ongoing projects in 73rd Meeting of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB).

Pilgrim-Centric Facilities for a Seamless Journey

Recently, the SMVDSB unveiled several new facilities aimed at improving the overall experience for pilgrims. One of the most notable is the Yatri Facilitation Centre at the Katra Railway Station, which serves as a vital gateway for pilgrims embarking on their journey to the shrine. This center aims to streamline the process of registration, provide essential information, and offer a range of services to enhance the convenience of devotees.

Additionally, the Shubhra Bhawan at Banganga was dedicated to the public. Built at a cost of Rs. 6.5 crore, this facility includes a spacious waiting lounge, a disaster management holding area, a lactating mothers’ zone, an information and registration center, souvenir shops, and refreshment kiosks. It ensures that pilgrims have access to key amenities in a comfortable environment as they continue their journey to the Bhawan.

Digital Transformation: ERP System and AI-Enabled Chatbot “Shakti”

In a move towards digital modernization, the Shrine Board launched several digital initiatives. A key development was the implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, which will streamline operations and improve efficiency across various departments of the shrine.

Another exciting digital addition is the AI-enabled Chatbot “Shakti”, accessible on the official website of the Shrine Board. The chatbot will assist pilgrims by answering queries in real time, providing information on various aspects of the yatra, including accommodation, travel routes, and other essential services.

Master Plans and Ongoing Projects

The SMVDSB is also making significant progress on multiple ongoing projects designed to improve infrastructure, safety, and the overall pilgrimage experience. One major development is the construction of the new Exit Track at Bhawan. This track, once completed, will help decongest the Bhawan area, facilitating smoother movement for pilgrims and reducing bottlenecks, especially during peak pilgrimage seasons.

The Master Plan for the Bhawan area is another vital project, focusing on expanding and upgrading the infrastructure to accommodate the growing number of pilgrims. This includes the development of a new Exit Track from Durga Bhawan to Manokamna, an area critical for the smooth flow of pilgrims. The plan also emphasizes the construction of temples in the Reasi district, further enhancing the religious offerings in the region.

Another important project under review is the Medical College at Kakryal, which will play a pivotal role in improving healthcare facilities for both pilgrims and locals.

Ensuring Safety: Collaboration for Landslide Risk Mitigation

The SMVDSB is also committed to ensuring the safety of pilgrims. In a historic step, the board is collaborating with the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and THDC India Limited (THDCIL) to identify and mitigate landslide risks along the Yatra Route between Adhkuwari and Bhawan. This tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will focus on securing slopes vulnerable to rockfalls and landslides, ensuring safer travel for devotees.

Addressing Congestion at Battery Car Point

The SMVDSB is fully aware of the congestion issues near the Battery Car Point at Bhawan, a key area where pilgrims board electric vehicles for a comfortable ascent. To address this, the board has approved the development of a dedicated parking facility for Battery Cars. This facility, constructed atop a 3-storey structure opposite Parvati Bhawan, will reduce congestion and provide a more organized space for Battery Cars, enhancing the experience for pilgrims.

Revamping the Sanjichhat Area

Sanjichhat, a significant stopover on the Yatra route, will undergo a major overhaul under the new Master Plan. The plan focuses on improving accommodations, water and food points, toilets, and queue management systems. With these enhancements, pilgrims will enjoy a more comfortable and efficient stop at Sanjichhat, making their journey more enjoyable.

Aesthetic Enhancements: Façade Lighting and Revamping

The aesthetic appeal of the Vaishno Devi shrine is also being elevated. The SMVDSB has initiated a façade lighting project to illuminate various sectors of the shrine, creating a serene and divine ambiance for visitors. The lighting will use a combination of LEDs and optic fiber technology to enhance the sanctum sanctorum, the three caves, and the Atka area, making the experience more visually stunning, especially in the evenings.

Expanding Charitable Initiatives

In addition to the infrastructural and safety upgrades, the SMVDSB is also supporting its charitable initiatives. The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Charitable Society will receive additional funding to operate essential peripheral institutions, including the Medical College, Hospital, Gurukul, Sports Complex, and College of Nursing. These institutions not only serve pilgrims but also contribute to the welfare of the broader community.
