history of Amarnath Cave

As the sacred Amarnath Yatra draws near, the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) has made detailed arrangements to ensure comfortable overnight stays for pilgrims en route to the Holy Cave Shrine in South Kashmir. To meet the growing needs of yatris, pre-fabricated huts have been set up at key camp locations along the two main routesโ€”Baltal and Pahalgam.

These huts offer safe and secure shelter and are managed by private contractors appointed by the SASB. Pilgrims are advised that these facilities are provided on a first-come, first-served basis, and advance coordination with the camp contractors is recommended to secure a stay.

Tatkal and Online Registration With RFID Tracking

To streamline the registration process, the administration has introduced both advance and tatkal (on-the-spot) registration systems. Pilgrims can register at five major centres:

  • Lakhanpur
  • Samba
  • Jammu
  • Chanderkote
  • Banihal

A daily quota system will be used for tatkal registration. Once registered, pilgrims will receive RFID cards, which will be mandatory for tracking and security purposes throughout the Yatra. This RFID system ensures real-time monitoring and enhances the overall management of pilgrim movement.

No Train Travel for the Yatra Route in 2025

This year, train services will not be used for Amarnath Yatra-related travel. The entire route will be managed via road convoys, and transport services have been fully prepared to handle the expected footfall efficiently.

Even individual pilgrims or those using private vehicles will be required to register and move as part of the official convoy. An advisory has been issued mandating this protocol for all Yatra participants.

Important Notes for Pilgrims

  • Every pilgrim, regardless of whether they are travelling in groups, buses, or private vehicles, must join the designated convoy system to proceed toward Kashmir. This convoy will be escorted by security forces to ensure safe passage through the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
  • These huts are not available for advance online booking through the Shrine Board portal. Pilgrims must coordinate directly with the respective camp contractors.
  • Tariffs are fixed per bed per night and may vary slightly based on availability or additional services.
  • Booking is strictly on a first-come, first-served basis, and yatris are advised to plan ahead and carry some buffer time in their schedules.
  • Pilgrims should carry valid registration documents and RFID cards for access and verification.
  • It’s recommended to reach the camps well before nightfall for hassle-free check-in and rest.

With the growing number of pilgrims joining the Amarnath Yatra , these pre-fabricated overnight accommodations offer a much-needed reprieve during the physically demanding pilgrimage. Whether youโ€™re trekking from Pahalgam or Baltal, the comfort and security of these huts help ensure a safe and spiritually enriching journey to the Amarnath Holy Cave.
