Joining millions of hopefuls across India, over 50,000 candidates from Jammu and Kashmir appeared for the NEET (UG) 2025 examination held today across 128 designated centres in the region on Sunday. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the nationwide exam for aspiring medical students between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., with all necessary protocols and logistics in place.

15,300 Candidates in Srinagar Alone

In Srinagar district, approximately 15,300 students appeared for the competitive examination at 36 centres. According to officials, every centre adhered strictly to NTA guidelines, ensuring student-friendly, safe, and secure conditions.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat personally visited several examination centres, including Amar Singh College, SP College, SP Higher Secondary School, and the College of Education, to assess the facilities and monitor proceedings. He expressed satisfaction over the arrangements, appreciating the efforts of the district administration and associated departments.

Centres Across J&K

In addition to Srinagar, centres were established in other parts of the Kashmir Division, including Anantnag, Baramulla, Budgam, Kupwara, and Pulwama. Meanwhile, the Jammu Division hosted centres in Jammu, Samba, Udhampur, and Kathua.

Robust Security and Monitoring Measures

To ensure the integrity and transparency of the examination process, CCTV surveillance, electronic jammers, student capacity management systems, and magisterial oversight were deployed across all centres. The authorities conducted mock drills a day prior to the exam to ensure preparedness.

“We have made the best possible arrangements as per NTA guidelines. Every measure was taken to facilitate the students. We’ve been preparing for this exam for a long time,” said DC Srinagar, Dr. Bilal.

Parental Support and Aspirants’ Reactions

As the exam progressed, anxious parents and guardians were seen waiting outside centres in Srinagar, hoping for the best outcomes for their children.

One of the aspirants, Irtiza, expressed satisfaction with the process. “The paper was good, and I did my best in accordance with my preparation. The rest, I leave to the Almighty. I’m hoping for the best,” she said.

National Outlook

Across India, an estimated 2.27 million candidates appeared for NEET (UG) 2025 at 5,453 centres, including 13 international cities. The General Administration Department (GAD) of J&K had earlier formed special committees in February to ensure the smooth and secure conduct of the examination.

Currently, Jammu & Kashmir has over 1,300 MBBS seats available across 12 government and private medical colleges, making NEET a crucial opportunity for local students aiming to pursue careers in medicine.
