The Meteorological Department has forecasted rain and snowfall across Jammu and Kashmir over the next three days, impacting travel and daily activities. According to Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the Meteorological Centre in Srinagar, isolated light rain is expected across the region, with widespread moderate rain and snow anticipated between February 25 and 28. Some areas may even experience isolated heavy snowfall during this period.

Weather Outlook for Jammu & Kashmir

The weather is expected to remain cloudy on March 1 and 2, with intermittent light rain and snowfall continuing across different parts of the region. This shift in weather patterns may influence surface transportation and outdoor activities.

Travel Advisory Issued for Hilly Areas

The Meteorological Department has issued an advisory warning of potential disruptions to surface transportation. Key passes and roads likely to be affected include:

  • Sadhna Pass
  • Razdan Pass
  • Sonamarg-Zojila-Gumri Axis
  • Mughal Road
  • Sinthan Pass
  • Other Major Roads in Hilly Districts

Tourists, travelers, and transporters have been urged to plan their trips accordingly and adhere to official traffic and administrative advisories to ensure safety during this period.

Precautionary Measures for Farmers

Farmers have been advised to suspend irrigation and any major agricultural operations during the predicted spell of rain and snowfall to avoid losses and disruptions.

Temperature Variations Across Kashmir

Despite the precipitation forecast, night temperatures have shown slight improvement but continue to remain below freezing in most parts of Kashmir. Here are the recorded minimum temperatures for key locations:

  • Srinagar: Below freezing
  • Gulmarg: -4.0°C
  • Pahalgam: -3.2°C
  • Qazigund: -1.0°C

Meanwhile, daytime temperatures have seen a notable rise of 6 to 7°C across the valley. Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 18.0°C, while Kupwara reached 18.6°C, marking the highest temperature recorded in the region.
