At present, eight Indian cities have operational metro service. They are Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Jaipur, Gurgaon and Kochi. Cities set for inauguration of similar service are Hyderabad, Pune, Nagpur, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Kanpur.
A list of 30 cities to be transformed into smart cities was prepared by Govt. of India. Jammu stood 21st in the list while Srinagar stood 10th. Both the cities will soon have a metro service each. Read below things you probably did not know about proposed Jammu Metro Rail Service:

In phase 1, route, of length 11 kms, between Kheri to Exhibition Ground will be constructed. In second phase, it will be constructed between Barnai and Bari Brahmana, ie., a distance of 25 kms.

A total of Rs. 3400 crores have been alloted for Jammu while a sum of Rs. 3600 crore will be given for Srinagar Metro service.

Major areas of Jammu city which are expected to benefit from the service are New Plot, Janipur, Talab Tillo, Satwari, Gandhi Nagar, Bakshi Nagar, Paloura, Trikuta Nagar, Bagh-e-Bahu etc.Read also: 5 popular temples of Jammu city

We certainly hope it is the right thing to do. All stake holders will have to ensure that Jammu Metro when taken for building is placed in the hands of an exceptionally qualified and experienced company so that no flaws and complicacies are left.
People of Jammu hail the step taken by the Government and their only concern at the time is that the project should be undertaken when the schedule is drawn and brought to completion according to time schedule.
