Several areas of J Kashmir and higher reaches of Jammu received fresh snowfall, including season’s first in many parts, leading to cancellation of six flights at Srinagar Airport and closure of major roads including Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has said the weather is likely to get better by today afternoon, while there are chances of moderate to heavy snow in higher reaches of Jammu & Kashmir from January 3 to 6.

The Meteorological Department has forecasted generally dry weather for the plains of Jammu and Kashmir for the next three days. However, intermittent weather changes are expected, particularly from the afternoon of December 27 to the forenoon of December 28. During this period, light rain may occur in the plains of Jammu, while light snowfall is likely over the higher reaches of the Chenab Valley and the Pir Panjal Range.
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the Meteorological Department, stated that December 29 will see predominantly dry weather conditions. On December 31, cloudy skies are expected, with a chance of light snow in isolated areas of higher altitudes.
