Srinagar, June 18: Residents across Jammu & Kashmir can expect cooler weather in the coming days. The latest Jammu Kashmir Weather Update from IMD predicts widespread rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across J&K till June 24. Stay informed with the latest forecast and travel advisory.
Rain and Thunderstorms to Remain Active
According to the latest forecast, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected across most parts of Jammu & Kashmir during the next 24 hours. Similar weather conditions are likely to continue over the coming days, with widespread rainfall expected on June 18 and 19, followed by fairly widespread rain from June 20 to June 22.
Weather activity is expected to gradually weaken from June 23 onward, with only scattered to isolated showers likely in some areas.
Strong Winds and Lightning Warning
The Meteorological Department has also warned of isolated thunderstorms that may be accompanied by lightning, hailstorms, and strong gusty winds.
Wind speeds could reach 40–50 kmph, with gusts touching 60 kmph at isolated places. Such conditions may lead to temporary disruptions, particularly in open areas and hilly regions.
What This Means for Daily Life
For many people, the rain will bring welcome relief from the summer heat. However, frequent showers may affect daily routines, especially during morning and evening travel hours.
Commuters may face:
- Slippery roads and slower traffic movement
- Waterlogging in low-lying areas
- Reduced visibility during heavy showers
- Temporary interruptions to outdoor activities
People planning social gatherings, sports events, or outdoor work should keep an eye on local weather updates.
Travel Advisory for Tourists and Commuters
Those travelling on highways and mountain roads are advised to remain cautious, particularly in landslide-prone areas. Rainfall can make roads slippery and increase the risk of shooting stones in vulnerable stretches.
Tourists visiting destinations such as Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg, Patnitop, and Bhaderwah should carry umbrellas or raincoats and be prepared for sudden weather changes.
