According to the latest Jammu and Kashmir weather update issued by the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, partly cloudy skies will dominate many areas, while intermittent rain showers and strong winds may affect normal life in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions.

The Meteorological Department has warned that wind speeds could reach 40 to 50 kilometers per hour in some areas, particularly during afternoon and evening hours.

In view of the changing weather conditions, authorities have urged people to remain cautious, especially those travelling to hilly and tourist regions.

The advisory specifically mentions avoiding:

  • Boating in lakes and reservoirs
  • Shikara rides during bad weather
  • Outdoor activities during thunderstorms
  • Travel in vulnerable landslide-prone areas during heavy rain spells

The warning is especially important for tourists visiting Kashmir Valley and pilgrims travelling to Mata Vaishno Devi in Katra.

The forecast indicates that weather conditions may improve briefly after May 16.

  • May 17–18: Mostly dry weather with chances of isolated light showers
  • May 19–20: Cloudy skies may return with light rain and thundershowers in some places
  • May 21–23: Weather expected to remain generally dry across most regions

Despite brief dry spells, the Meteorological Department has advised people to remain vigilant due to continued weather fluctuations across the Union Territory.
