Weather in Jammu & Kashmir

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory for several districts of Jammu Division, forecasting cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers over the next five days, from September 7 to 11.

According to the bulletin, districts including Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban are likely to witness spells of rainfall of varying intensity. The advisory warned that September 7 could bring heavy rainfall at isolated places in Jammu, Kathua, and Udhampur, especially during evening and night hours, which may trigger localized flooding and landslides in hilly areas.

For Jammu district, the IMD predicted cloudy skies with light to moderate showers on September 7 and 8. From September 9 onwards, conditions are expected to remain partly cloudy with only occasional light rain at isolated spots. Similar conditions have been forecast for Kathua and Udhampur, with the possibility of heavy showers in patches on September 7 and 8.

In Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban, generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected on September 7 and 8. From September 9 to 11, the weather is likely to improve, with partly cloudy skies dominating.

Officials have cautioned residents in landslide-prone and hilly areas to remain vigilant, as waterlogging, road blockades, and mudslides may occur during spells of heavy rain. Travelers using the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway and other interior routes have been urged to plan their journeys carefully and follow updates from authorities.

Meanwhile, farmers have been advised to take preventive measures to protect standing crops from water stagnation and soil erosion. Locals and tourists have also been urged to avoid vulnerable riverbanks, streams, and unstable slopes until conditions improve.

The IMD confirmed that its teams are closely monitoring the situation, and any significant changes in the forecast will be shared through further advisories.
