UPSC Introduces New Module Of Registration, Online Application Form For Civil Services Exam

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has revamped the Civil Services Examination (CSE) registration process for 2025 by introducing a new online application module. This system replaces the Detailed Application Form (DAF)-I and DAF-II, aiming to improve efficiency, enhance convenience for candidates, and optimize the examination cycle. Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced this update on Thursday.

Key Features of the New Registration System

The Civil Services Examination, conducted annually by the UPSC under the Department of Personnel & Training’s regulations, now follows a more streamlined approach. According to Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh, applicants must submit crucial details, including date of birth, reservation category, and educational qualifications, at the time of online registration.

Mandatory Document Submission for Eligibility

As per the revised guidelines, failing to provide the required documentation along with the online application will lead to disqualification. This new measure ensures a transparent selection process and minimizes administrative delays.

Three-Stage Selection Process

UPSC continues to follow its rigorous three-stage selection process:

  • Preliminary Examination: A multiple-choice test to assess general knowledge and aptitude.
  • Main Examination: A written test evaluating candidates’ subject expertise.
  • Interview Round: A personality assessment to determine the suitability of candidates for administrative roles.

Successful candidates will be recruited into prestigious government services, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS).

Optional Subjects in CSE

Addressing a parliamentary query, Minister Singh confirmed that medical science remains an optional subject in the Civil Services (Main) Examination. However, after thorough evaluation, the Department of Personnel and Training found it unfeasible to introduce pharmacy as an optional subject.
