Reliance Jio has further consolidated its dominance in the Jammu & Kashmir (including Ladakh) telecom circle, emerging as the only operator to add new mobile subscribers in September 2025. According to the latest subscription data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Jio added a net of 40,000 new wireless subscribers in the region.
This growth solidifies Jio’s position as the preferred telecom brand in J&K, with its total subscriber base surpassing 52 lakh (5.2 million) as of September 30, 2025.
Mobile subscribers in J&K: Jio Gains as Airtel, Vi, and BSNL Recede
The latest TRAI report paints a clear picture of a two-tier market. While Jio recorded positive growth, its key competitors witnessed a decline in their user base during the same period:
- Bharti Airtel lost 36,000 subscribers.
- Vodafone Idea (Vi) lost 4,600 subscribers.
- BSNL lost 3,700 subscribers.
This trend is not new. Jio has dominated wireless subscriber net additions in the region throughout 2025, adding 1.59 lakh users in July and 57 thousand in August, showcasing consistent momentum.
What’s Driving Jio’s Success in Jammu & Kashmir?
A key differentiator for Jio is its significant infrastructure advantage. The operator boasts the largest and most robust 4G and True 5G network in J&K, covering over 91% of the population.
A critical factor behind this network strength is Jio’s extensive fiber backhaul. Most of Jio’s mobile sites are on fibre, which provides nearly unlimited data carrying capacity. This results in faster, more reliable, and higher-quality data speeds, multi-fold higher than competitors relying on older technology. This superior network experience is a primary reason for Jio’s high customer retention and acquisition.
The total number of mobile subscribers in J&K stands at approximately 1.27 crore, highlighting the competitive and strategic importance of this telecom circle.
