In a big relief for students and parents, the Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) has officially extended winter vacations for all Government and private schools located in the Summer Zone of Jammu till January 17, 2026. The decision comes amid severe cold wave and worsening weather conditions across the region.

According to the official order, the vacation extension applies to both students and teaching staff, ensuring safety during the ongoing spell of harsh winter.

However, the authorities have made it clear that board examinations for Classes 10th, 11th, and 12th, if already scheduled, will be held strictly as per the notified dates, with no changes announced so far.

To avoid academic loss, schools have been advised to consider online classes for students from Class 6th onwards, depending on feasibility and local conditions.

Meanwhile, officials confirmed that Republic Day 2026 preparations will continue as planned, following the schedule issued by the competent authorities, despite the extension of school winter vacations.

The move by DSEJ has been widely welcomed, especially as Jammu continues to reel under intense cold, with temperatures dipping sharply over the past few days.
