Salal Dam also known as Salal Hydroelectric Power Station, is a run-of-the-river power project on the Chenab River in the Reasi district.
The Salal power station has achieved the target of highest-ever power generation in a day by generating 17.016 MUs of electricity.
The record generation could be achieved owing to trash management, water availability and regulation, and execution of annual maintenance of machines ahead of schedule resulting in continuous availability of machines for power generation. During the period of record generation, all parameters like stator current, transformer parameters and vibrations were observed well within permissible limits.
The project was conceived in 1920. The feasibility studies on the project commenced in 1961 by the state government of Jammu and Kashmir and construction was started in 1970 by Central Hydroelectric Project Control Board under the Ministry of Irrigation and Power.
