After days of intense drone and missile attacks, Jammu and Kashmir finally witnessed a peaceful morning on Sunday, May 11, offering temporary relief to residents across key cities including Jammu, Akhnoor, Rajouri, and Poonch. No incidents of drones, firing, or shelling were reported during the night.

However, the calm was short-lived.

Indian Air Defence Neutralizes All Threats, Pakistan Suffers Heavy Losses

In the preceding days, India’s advanced air defence systems successfully intercepted all drones launched by Pakistani troops. At the same time, Indian forces carried out precision strikes that resulted in heavy damage to around 10 Pakistani air and military bases.

Officials confirmed that these strikes were measured, non-escalatory, and targeted known terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK)—a response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which had killed multiple civilians and security personnel.Pakistan Requests Ceasefire, DGMOs Reach Temporary UnderstandingFollowing India’s successful counter-offensive, Pakistan reached out for a ceasefire on Saturday. During a high-level call between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries, an “understanding” was reached to halt military actions.

Sources from the Indian government clarified that the agreement carried no preconditions, post-conditions, or linkage to other bilateral issues, underscoring India’s commitment to peace while reserving the right to defend its sovereignty.

Pakistan Violates Ceasefire Within Hours, Launches New Drone Strikes

Just hours after the agreement, Pakistan violated the ceasefire, launching fresh drone attacks across multiple cities in Jammu and Kashmir. This blatant breach drew sharp criticism from New Delhi.

In a late-night press briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri expressed serious concern:

“For the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding arrived at earlier this evening… The armed forces are giving an adequate and appropriate response to these violations and we take very, very serious note of these violations.”

India Issues Stern Warning, Prepared to Respond Decisively

India has instructed its armed forces to respond strongly to any further ceasefire violations, both along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir.

Vikram Misri further urged Pakistan to:

“Take appropriate steps to address these violations and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility.”

Backdrop: Operation Sindoor and the Escalation of Tensions

The current escalation stems from India’s Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam. In retaliation, India struck nine terror sites with surgical precision. This led to a spiral of Pakistani aggression targeting military establishments, civilian areas, and even religious places across northern and western India.

India’s prompt and coordinated use of its S-400 systems, Barak-8 missiles, Akash batteries, and indigenous counter-drone tech proved crucial in thwarting Pakistan’s attempts.
