In response to the India Meteorological Department’s warning of heavy rains and strong winds in the Jammu region, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has issued a high alert advisory urging both officials and citizens to remain vigilant and prepared.

JMC Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav announced on Friday evening that all municipal officers have been instructed to stay on high alert, particularly in Zone 1, Zone 2, and Zone 3, where the impact is expected to be more severe. The civic body is taking all possible measures to prevent loss of life and property damage during this volatile weather phase.

Safety Measures for Residents During Severe Weather

To ensure public safety, the JMC strongly advises all residents to stay indoors during the peak of the storm. Those living in vulnerable areas should take precautionary measures, secure loose objects, and remain updated through official channels.

There should be no loss of life or property during this period,” Dr. Yadav emphasized in the official advisory. Authorities are also urging people to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in flood-prone zones and around old or weak trees and electric poles.

Emergency Helplines by JMC

In case of any emergency or infrastructure damage, residents can contact the JMC through its dedicated helpline numbers:

  • 94697 48042
  • 94193 72824

These helplines are operational round-the-clock to address urgent concerns related to fallen trees, damaged roads, blocked drains, or other weather-related hazards.

JMC Mobilizes Teams to Clear Roads and Respond Rapidly

The municipal body has already deployed multiple teams across the city to assess and clear debris, including uprooted trees, broken electric poles, and any obstruction that may hinder safe commuting. Special focus is being given to clearing narrow lanes and busy roads to maintain access for ambulances and emergency services.

Transport officers have been tasked with ensuring quick response times, while survey teams are already inspecting high-risk areas to evaluate and report any signs of potential hazards.

Civic Authorities Show Full Commitment to Public Safety

As part of its broader initiative, the JMC has aligned its disaster management protocols with district-level authorities, ensuring a coordinated emergency response throughout the Jammu region. This includes communication with Deputy Commissioners of various districts, who have issued similar advisories urging residents to follow safety instructions strictly.

Dr. Yadav reassured the public, stating, “The Jammu Municipal Corporation is fully committed to citizen safety. We are working proactively to monitor, respond, and provide relief during this extreme weather situation. Public cooperation is crucial for effective disaster management.”

Weather Precautionary Tips from the JMC

To minimize risk during this period of turbulent weather, the JMC recommends the following:

  • Avoid stepping out unless absolutely necessary.
  • Stay away from trees, electric poles, and water-logged areas.
  • Keep mobile phones charged and essential supplies stocked.
  • Follow weather updates from official sources like IMD and JMC.
  • Report any incidents of damage or emergency through helpline numbers.

Region-Wide Precautions in Place

The District Commissioners of various Jammu districts have also released parallel advisories echoing the need for caution and preparedness. Emergency control rooms have been activated across the region, and disaster response teams are on standby.

Municipal officials are also in touch with power and water departments to ensure uninterrupted services during the storm. Backup generators and water pumps have been positioned in sensitive areas to tackle unexpected outages.

With the threat of heavy rainfall and strong winds looming large, Jammu residents are urged to prioritize safety and stay informed. The JMC’s swift actions, combined with region-wide cooperation from civil authorities, aim to minimize disruption and protect lives.

Keep your families safe, report any hazards promptly, and stay tuned to local advisories for real-time updates.
