J&K Weather Update 24 Feb 25: Widespread Rain and Snow Predicted Over the Next Three Days

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a weather forecast predicting widespread light to moderate rainfall and snowfall across Jammu and Kashmir over the next three days. The region is expected to experience a significant shift in weather conditions, with isolated heavy rain and snow likely in some areas.

Weather Forecast for Jammu and Kashmir

According to the MeT department, isolated light rain is expected in parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. However, between February 25 and February 28, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rain and snowfall are anticipated. Some areas may witness isolated instances of heavy precipitation.

Travel and Transportation Advisory

Authorities have issued an advisory cautioning travelers about potential disruptions in surface transportation due to the weather conditions. Key passes and highways, including:

  • Sadhna Pass
  • Razdan Pass
  • Sonamarg-Zojila-Gumri Axis
  • Mughal Road
  • Sinthan Pass
  • Other major roads in hilly districts

are likely to experience temporary blockages. Travelers, tourists, and transport operators are urged to plan their journeys accordingly and adhere to official traffic advisories.

Guidance for Farmers

The weather department has advised farmers in Jammu and Kashmir to suspend irrigation and other agricultural activities during this period. The predicted rain and snowfall could impact farming operations, making it crucial to take precautionary measures.

Temperature Trends in Jammu and Kashmir

Despite an improvement in night temperatures, most parts of the Kashmir Valley remained below freezing point. The recorded minimum temperatures in key locations were:

  • Srinagar: Below freezing point
  • Gulmarg: -4.0°C
  • Pahalgam: -3.2°C
  • Qazigund: -1.0°C

Meanwhile, the day temperatures showed an increasing trend by 4 to 6°C across the Kashmir Valley. On Sunday, the highest recorded temperatures were:

  • Srinagar: 16.6°C
  • Kupwara: 16.6°C

Similarly, in the Jammu division, the temperature rose by 2 to 4°C, with:

  • Kathua: 24.6°C
  • Jammu: 24.2°C

With changing weather patterns in Jammu and Kashmir, residents and travelers are advised to stay updated on the latest forecasts and take necessary precautions.
