Traffic Police Sub-Inspector Suspended for Shooting Reel on Snowy Mughal Road, Inquiry Ordered

A traffic police sub-inspector in Jammu and Kashmir has been placed under suspension after allegedly misusing his official vehicle to shoot a social media reel on the snow-covered Mughal Road in Poonch district, officials confirmed.

The action came after a video went viral on social media, showing Sub-Inspector Gul Sheraz, who was posted as sector officer (traffic) on Mughal Road, dangerously leaning out of the open front door of a moving official vehicle near Peer Ki Gali, a high-altitude and snow-prone stretch of the road.

Officials said the incident sparked widespread criticism, as the Mughal Road was witnessing hazardous weather and slippery conditions at the time. The act raised serious concerns about public safety, traffic discipline, and professional conduct, especially from an officer entrusted with enforcing traffic laws.

Following the incident, ASI Anil Kumar has been deployed as the new sector officer (traffic) on Mughal Road, while Gul Sheraz has been directed to report to the Traffic Police Lines, Rural Jammu, with immediate effect.

The Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Rural Jammu, Farooq Qaiser, has ordered a departmental inquiry into the matter. The probe will be conducted by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Rajouri–Poonch.

Reiterating the department’s stand, SSP Farooq Qaiser said there is “zero tolerance for any violation of the Motor Vehicles Act or traffic safety norms, whether by civilians or traffic police personnel.” He further warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found compromising public safety, particularly while driving in risky terrain and weather conditions.
