Three security personnel were injured on 24 September in a grenade attack by militants in a north Kashmir town.

The grenade lobbed by the militants inside a security forces’ vehicle in Sopore town of Baramulla district could have led to more casualties, but an alert special police officer saved many lives by throwing away the explosive.

However, SPO Aquib, without caring for his life, immediately threw the grenade outside the vehicle. Two SPOs, including Aquib, and a CRPF jawan besides four civilians received minor splinter injuries.

The daring act of SPO was highly appreciated by senior officers and former chief minister Omar Abdullah.

Responding to Abdullah’s tweet, the DGP of Jammu and Kashmir instructed for the SPO’s absorption in J&K police.
