Jammu & Kashmir is witnessing a remarkable transformation in financial inclusion and social security delivery. A major highlight of the ongoing financial inclusion drive is the identification of nearly 5.46 lakh unorganised workers for enrolment under the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan (PMSYM) scheme. This flagship pension programme ensures a monthly pension of ₹3,000 for workers once they turn 60, offering essential financial stability during old age.

Jammu & Kashmir continues to deepen financial accessibility with rapid growth in Jan Dhan account registrations. The region recorded 77,208 new Jan Dhan accounts, raising the total number to an impressive 23.13 lakh accounts.
This achievement reinforces the UT’s commitment to financial empowerment by ensuring every household has access to formal banking, direct benefit transfers, and affordable financial tools.

Insurance Coverage Expands Under PMSBY and PMJJBY

The Union Territory has seen strong momentum in government-backed social security insurance schemes, providing essential safety nets to low-income families.

Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY)

  • 4.3 lakh new enrolments were added recently.
  • Total PMSBY coverage has now reached 27.64 lakh subscribers.

Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY)

  • 1.57 lakh new enrolments were recorded.
  • PMJJBY now covers 11.06 lakh beneficiaries across the region.

These numbers highlight growing awareness and acceptance of affordable life and accident insurance among the people of Jammu & Kashmir.

Growth in Atal Pension Yojana Reflects Rising Retirement Awareness

The Atal Pension Yojana (APY) also witnessed encouraging progress. Over 33,500 new subscribers joined the scheme, pushing the total number of beneficiaries to 2.81 lakh.
This growth signals a positive shift in how citizens perceive retirement planning, with more individuals opting for structured pension support for long-term financial security.

Welfare Coverage for Construction Workers Strengthens Social Safety Net

The Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCWW) Welfare Board continues to play a crucial role in supporting labourers in one of the largest unorganised sectors. As of October 2025:

  • 5.9 lakh construction workers have been registered under BOCWW.

This initiative ensures access to benefits such as education assistance, health support, financial aid, and safety measures for workers and their families.

Social Welfare Department Extends Support to 8.6 Lakh Citizens

The Social Welfare Department has significantly expanded its outreach by providing pensions to:

  • Old-age beneficiaries
  • Widows
  • Persons with disabilities

A total of 8.6 lakh beneficiaries now receive assistance, contributing to an impressive beneficiary ratio of around 600 per 10,000 population in the Union Territory.
