Traffic Highway Close Jammu srinagar

Continuous heavy rainfall in Banihal and adjoining sectors on Tuesday forced authorities to suspend traffic movement along the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway, citing safety concerns. The 250-km highway, which was briefly restored after days of closure, has once again been blocked due to fresh landslides and shooting stones.

Landslides and Shooting Stones Block Highway

Officials reported multiple incidents of minor landslides and falling stones along vulnerable stretches of the highway. These incidents have made travel unsafe, forcing traffic police to take strict precautionary measures.

“Our priority is the safety of travelers. With persistent rainfall, we cannot risk allowing movement at this stage,” a senior traffic police officer said.

Commuters Urged to Avoid Unnecessary Travel

Authorities have appealed to commuters not to travel without confirming the latest status of the highway. Travelers have been urged to follow official traffic updates and advisories before planning any journey.

“We urge people to avoid unnecessary travel. The situation is being closely monitored, and decisions will be taken keeping public safety in mind,” the officer added.

Mughal Road Open for Now

While the Jammu–Srinagar highway remains shut, officials confirmed that traffic on the Mughal Road is moving smoothly as per the latest advisory. This alternative route is currently being used for essential supplies and limited travel.

Essential Lifeline Disrupted Again

The Jammu–Srinagar National Highway is the only all-weather road connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country. Frequent closures due to heavy rain, landslides, and flash floods have severely disrupted the movement of essentials, including food, fuel, and medicines.

More Rainfall Predicted

The Meteorological Department has forecast more spells of rain in the coming hours. This prediction has put officials and restoration teams on high alert as they continue to monitor vulnerable spots and work on clearing blockages.
