The weather in Jammu and Kashmir is expected to stay largely dry and stable until December 5, according to the latest forecast from the Meteorological Centre Srinagar. The department reported that most regions across the Union Territory will witness dry weather conditions till December 3, offering clear skies and cold nights typical of early winter in the Himalayas.
However, a change in sky conditions is expected on December 4 and 5, when the weather is likely to turn mostly cloudy, especially from the evening of December 4. The MeT also indicated a slight chance of light snowfall at isolated higher reaches, a development that may mark the initial signs of the winter spell in Kashmir’s upper mountains.
From December 6 to December 10, the forecast suggests partly to generally cloudy skies across Jammu and Kashmir. Cloudy weather is expected to continue on December 11 and 12 as well, though no major precipitation is likely during this period.
The Meteorological Department also issued an advisory regarding shallow to moderate fog, which is expected to persist in many areas of the Kashmir Valley and at isolated pockets of the Jammu division, especially during the night and early morning hours. Residents have been urged to remain cautious while travelling through fog-prone routes due to reduced visibility.
Despite the chilly winds and long nights, the MeT said that cold and dry weather will dominate until December 4, after which a slight improvement in minimum temperatures is expected. Night temperatures are likely to rise by 1–2°C after December 4, offering some relief from the biting cold.
Overall, the MeT Centre confirmed that no major Western Disturbance or significant weather event is expected during the forecast period. Conditions across both the Kashmir Valley and Jammu region will remain calm, dry, and largely predictable, giving residents and travellers a clearer picture of what to expect in the coming days.
