In a landmark moment for Indian domestic cricket, Jammu and Kashmir scripted history on Tuesday by securing their first-ever Ranji Trophy victory over Delhi at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. This remarkable win marked J&K’s second outright victory of the season, propelling them to second place in the Elite Group D standings, just behind Mumbai.

Jammu and Kashmir opted to bowl first, and their pacers didn’t disappoint. Auqib Nabi was the star of the innings, producing a fiery spell of 5 for 35, dismantling Delhi’s top order. Vanshaj Sharma (2/57) and Abid Mushtaq (2/30) provided strong support, ensuring Delhi were bundled out for just 211 runs in their first innings.

Despite early setbacks, J&K’s batting unit showed immense character. Veteran batter Paras Dogra anchored the innings with a composed 106, while the young and aggressive Abdul Samad added a fluent 85. Kanhaiya Wadhawan’s crucial 47 also boosted the total as J&K posted 310, earning a 99-run first innings lead.

Delhi’s second innings began with promise. Skipper Ayush Badoni’s 72 and Ayush Doseja’s 62 helped Delhi reach 267/5, hinting at a fightback. However, a sudden collapse followed — the last five wickets fell for just 10 runs, thanks to Vanshaj Sharma’s destructive left-arm spin, which earned him brilliant figures of 6 for 68.

Chasing a modest target, Qamran Iqbal delivered a career-best unbeaten 133, steering J&K to a comfortable 179/3 and ensuring a historic first-ever win over Delhi in 43 Ranji Trophy encounters. His mature and composed innings showcased the growing confidence and consistency within the team.

This historic Ranji Trophy win not only broke Delhi’s long-standing dominance but also highlighted the rise of Jammu and Kashmir cricket in India’s domestic circuit. The team’s impressive all-round performance reflects years of growth, determination, and belief.

Next up, J&K will face Hyderabad in Round 5 at the Hostel Ground, JKCA, as they aim to continue their strong run in the Elite Group D with two wins and one loss so far.
