Jammu is about to get intelligent traffic lights soon. Traffic signals were first installed in Jammu in the year 2012 to control menacing traffic of the city. Over the time, these traffic lights seem to be inefficient as the number of vehicles in Jammu is ever growing. To end the traffic woes of the city, Jammu Municipal will soon install intelligent traffic lights in the city. Here are a few facts about the same:
The project is undertaken by JMC and is being executed under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT).
These traffic lights will be able to automatically read number plate and detect red light violation.
The cost of the project is estimated around Rs 21.95 crore and includes upgradation of existing traffic signal lights and installation of new such lights at 34 new locations. Most of the traffic controlling will be done from a central control room using cameras and sensors to detect real time traffic volume and will respond accordingly.

The system will also be able to detect emergency vehicles from the traffic and allow quick passage.
The project is likely to be launched before the upcoming Darbar Move.
