Illegal Mining Jammu

In a strong action against illegal mining, Jammu Police have seized 631 vehicles and imposed fines amounting to nearly ₹1 crore over the past year, sending a clear warning to organised mining violators exploiting natural resources.

Sharing details of the intensified drive, officials said enforcement was stepped up across Jammu district to curb unlawful extraction of minerals and protect environmentally sensitive zones. The crackdown was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs, with vulnerable mining areas witnessing heightened police presence and surprise checks.

According to official data, out of the 631 vehicles seized in 2025, as many as 572 vehicles were later released after completion of statutory and legal formalities. However, strict penalties were imposed on violators, with fines totaling ₹99,85,327, reflecting the administration’s zero-tolerance approach toward illegal mining activities.

Police officials said the sustained action aims not only to penalise offenders but also to deter organised illegal mining networks operating in and around Jammu. “The focus is on long-term deterrence and safeguarding natural resources from unchecked exploitation,” an official stated.

Authorities have reiterated that such enforcement drives will continue in the coming months, warning that anyone found involved in illegal mining will face stringent legal action under applicable laws.
