Gangster Shot Dead at Jewel Chowk Jammu

In a shocking incident ahead of Republic Day, a gangster was killed in broad daylight at the bustling Jewel Chowk area in Jammu. The victim, identified as Sumit Jandial, also known as Gataru, was shot multiple times by unidentified assailants, leaving the region in shock.

Brazen Daylight Murder at Jewel Chowk

The incident occurred tuesday when Sumit Jandial, aged 37 and a resident of Vijaypur’s Ward No. 9, was driving a Thar SUV through the busy Jewel Chowk. Suddenly, a group of armed attackers intercepted his vehicle and opened fire. Jandial was left critically injured, lying in a pool of blood.

Witnesses reported that the assailants fled the crime scene using scooties. The bold nature of the attack in a high-traffic area has raised concerns about public safety, as reported by India Tv News

Police Response and Initial Investigation

Police teams arrived at the scene promptly after receiving information about the attack. Jandial was rushed to the Government Medical College in Jammu, where he was declared dead on arrival. Senior officers, including Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu Anand Jain and DIG JSK Range Shiv Kumar Sharma, visited the crime scene to assess the situation.

Speaking to the media, ADGP Anand Jain described the incident as “normal” in the context of gang-related violence. He confirmed that the deceased was a notorious gangster associated with the Gataru gang and hinted that the murder was likely due to an old rivalry with another gang. However, he refrained from naming the group responsible for the attack.

Assailants Identified, Arrests Imminent

DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma assured reporters that the attackers and the vehicles used for their escape have been identified. He expressed confidence in apprehending the culprits soon, stating, “We’ve identified the attackers and their scooties. They will be arrested and put behind bars shortly.”

Both officers dismissed any terror angle in the case, attributing the murder solely to gang rivalry. Investigations are ongoing, with special police teams working to gather evidence and track the suspects.

Case Registered as Probe Continues

The Nowabad Police Station has registered a case under relevant sections of the law. Investigators are examining CCTV footage and questioning witnesses to piece together the sequence of events. Meanwhile, authorities have increased security in the area to prevent further incidents.

This daylight murder has once again highlighted the challenges of maintaining law and order in busy urban areas. Residents of Jammu are calling for swift justice to ensure public safety and deter such brazen acts in the future.
