Cold Wave Grips Kashmir: Gulmarg Freezes at -7.5°C
As per the latest MeT data, Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district recorded an extreme low of -7.5°C, making it one of the coldest inhabited areas in the region. Other parts of Kashmir also experienced sub-zero temperatures:
- Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded -3.6°C.
- Srinagar saw a slight increase in temperature, reaching -1.2°C.
- Qazigund in south Kashmir remained cold at -1°C.
Fresh Rain and Snowfall Expected Across Jammu and Kashmir
According to the Meteorological Department, light rainfall was recorded in parts of Kashmir over the past 24 hours, including Pahalgam, Kokernag, and Kupwara. The forecast suggests:
- February 4-5: Light to moderate rain and snow at several locations, with higher reaches of Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal Range expected to receive over 8-10 inches of snowfall.
- February 6-8: Partly cloudy and predominantly dry conditions.
- February 9: Isolated to scattered areas may experience fresh spells of light rain and snowfall.
- February 10-11: Widespread cloud cover with chances of light precipitation across various locations.

Given the snowfall predictions, tourists, travelers, and transporters are advised to follow local administration and traffic advisories. The accumulation of heavy snow in the higher altitudes may lead to disruptions in road connectivity, especially in areas like Gulmarg, Sonamarg, and Pahalgam.
