In a serious caution to law enforcement, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has raised concerns over the increasing role of cryptocurrency and the dark web in drug trafficking and terrorism activities across Jammu and Kashmir.

Technology-Fueled Drug Trade Escalates Security Risks

Speaking at the Police Training School in Manigam,  in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, Sinha warned that narco-smuggling is no longer a traditional threat. Instead, digital platforms, encrypted communications, and crypto transactions are now enabling transnational narco-terror networks, , reported by Daily Excelsior.

“Dark web is emerging as the new marketplace for drug trade, and cryptocurrency is replacing conventional cash deals,” he said.

Cybercrime & Organized Criminal Networks on the Rise

Sinha noted that the misuse of modern technology is fueling a surge in cybercrime and organized criminal activity. He called for continuous innovation and advanced skill training to equip police officers in tackling this new era of crime.

“You must stay one step ahead of these digital-age criminals with policy innovation and cutting-edge tech tools.”

Modernizing Jammu & Kashmir Police for Future Challenges

To meet the evolving threat landscape, Sinha emphasized building a technologically advanced and future-ready police force. He highlighted the dual role of J&K Police—fighting terrorism and maintaining law and order.

“Unlike other forces, J&K Police balances counter-terror duties with maintaining peace and aiding development.”

Reviving Terrorism in Jammu: A Disturbing Trend

While appreciating the efforts of security forces in controlling terrorism in the Kashmir Valley, the LG warned of efforts to revive militancy in the Jammu region, previously considered stable.

He stressed on teamwork among security agencies to eliminate terrorism from both Jammu and Kashmir completely.

Intelligence + Tech = Smarter Policing

Sinha praised J&K Police’s advancements in real-time intelligence and rapid response operations. He believes that future success will depend on the integration of AI, predictive surveillance, and cyber defense mechanisms.

“Special strategy, tech, and specific intelligence will put the last nail in terrorism’s coffin.”

This warning by LG Manoj Sinha isn’t just a policy statement—it’s a wake-up call for law enforcement agencies across India. As criminals turn to digital currencies and the dark web, traditional methods of crime-fighting are becoming obsolete.

It’s time for Jammu and Kashmir—and the entire nation—to rethink policing with an eye on technology, real-time intelligence, and strategic innovation.
