Pakistani troops continued their unprovoked ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) for the seventh consecutive night, targeting multiple sectors across three border districts of Jammu and Kashmir, according to defence officials.
Fresh Violations Reported in Kupwara, Uri, Akhnoor
During the night of April 30 to May 1, Pakistani forces initiated small arms fire across LoC positions opposite the Kupwara and Uri sectors in north Kashmir, and Akhnoor in the Jammu region. Army officials confirmed that Indian troops responded “swiftly and proportionately” to the aggression.
Pattern of Escalation from North to South
The ceasefire violations, which initially began with small arms fire in Kupwara and Baramulla districts, soon expanded southward. Pakistani firing was reported in the Poonch sector, followed by attacks on Indian posts in the Akhnoor region.
On Tuesday night, Pakistani troops targeted LoC posts in the Sunderbani and Naushera sectors of Rajouri district. By Wednesday, the ceasefire violations extended to the Pargwal sector along the International Border (IB) in Jammu district.
Ongoing Tensions Since Suspension of Indus Waters Treaty
These repeated ceasefire violations have occurred since April 24, just hours after India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty in response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives. The first reports of firing came from the Kashmir Valley and have since spread to multiple sensitive zones.
Heightened Security Measures in Kashmir
Security forces in Kashmir have issued high alerts in all border areas amid the ongoing hostilities. Officials confirmed that checkpoints have been established and frisking operations intensified in nearby towns to prevent any infiltration attempts or untoward incidents.
