The automobile sector in Jammu & Kashmir registered a strong performance in September 2025, with total retail vehicle sales climbing 11.42% year-on-year, signaling a positive start to the festive quarter. According to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), a total of 14,208 vehicles were sold in September 2025, compared to 12,752 units in the same month last year.
Category-Wise Performance: Two-Wheelers Lead the Rally
Two-Wheelers Show Remarkable Growth
The two-wheeler segment emerged as the strongest performer, posting a 12.71% increase with 7,876 units sold in September 2025, compared to 6,988 units in September 2024. Rising demand for affordable mobility and festive discounts boosted this category’s momentum.
Passenger Vehicles Maintain Upward Momentum
The passenger vehicle category recorded a 15.75% rise, reaching 4,379 units this year against 3,783 units in the previous September. Growing consumer confidence and the introduction of new SUV models contributed to this robust growth.
Commercial Vehicles on the Rise
The commercial vehicle segment witnessed a 22.78% growth, with 760 units sold compared to 619 units last year. The improvement in logistics, infrastructure expansion, and festive supply chain demand drove this category upward.
Sectors Facing a Downturn
Not all categories shared the same fortune.
- Three-wheelers saw a decline of 13.08%, with sales dropping from 1,093 units in 2024 to 950 units in 2025.
- Construction equipment fell sharply by 28.57%, registering just 20 units compared to 28 units last year.
- Tractor sales also dipped 7.47%, settling at 223 units, slightly below 241 units in September 2024.
Despite these declines, the overall automobile market in J&K reflected a healthy recovery trend.
FADA Chairperson Sanjay Aggarwal on Industry Outlook
Commenting on the performance, Sanjay Aggarwal, Chairperson of FADA, said,
“September 2025 was an exceptionally unique month for the automobile retail industry. The first three weeks were largely muted, as customers waited for clarity on the GST 2.0 reforms. However, the month ended on a strong note with an overall 11.42% year-on-year growth, indicating positive market momentum.”
He added that the festive spirit is driving record-level enquiries and bookings, particularly in two-wheeler, passenger, and commercial vehicle categories.
Festive Season Outlook: A Golden Quarter Ahead
With Dhanteras and Diwali around the corner, the automobile market is gearing up for record-breaking sales. Dealerships across Jammu & Kashmir are witnessing a surge in footfall and online inquiries.
Aggarwal expressed optimism about the near-term outlook, stating that October 2025 and the months ahead look promising, supported by economic stability, festive excitement, and the positive impact of GST 2.0 reforms.
The current momentum is expected to usher in a golden phase for auto retail in India, with J&K positioned as one of the key regions showcasing resilient demand and consumer enthusiasm.
