This year, the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025 recommended 958 candidates for appointment to various services of the Government of India. The selection was based on candidates’ combined performance in the Preliminary Examination, the Main Written Examination, and the Personality Test (Interview).
The category-wise selection includes:
- 317 candidates from General category
- 104 candidates from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS)
- 306 candidates from Other Backward Classes (OBC)
- 158 candidates from Scheduled Castes (SC)
- 73 candidates from Scheduled Tribes (ST)
Additionally, the commission has prepared a reserve list of 258 candidates across different categories to fill future vacancies if required.
Recruitment to India’s Most Prestigious Services
Through the UPSC Civil Services Examination, candidates are selected for several prestigious government services, including:
- Indian Administrative Service (IAS)
- Indian Police Service (IPS)
- Indian Foreign Service (IFS)
- Indian Revenue Service (IRS)
Apart from these, successful candidates are also recruited into several Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’ central services, playing a crucial role in governance and administration across the country.
Vacancies Reported for Civil Services 2025
For the 2025 examination cycle, the Government of India has reported the following vacancies:
- 180 posts in IAS
- 55 posts in IFS
- 150 posts in IPS
- 507 posts in various Group ‘A’ services
- 195 posts in Group ‘B’ services
These positions will be filled based on candidates’ rank, category, and service preferences.

According to the commission:
- Marksheets of all candidates will be available online within 15 days.
- The marksheets will remain accessible for 30 days.
Successful candidates will now move to the next stage where services will be allocated based on rank, category, and preferences.
