The 19th Convocation of the University of Jammu was held today with great pride and celebration as 603 candidates received Degrees and Gold Medals for their academic excellence.
Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, Chancellor of the University, graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest, while Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the Pro-Chancellor, attended as the Guest of Honour.
178 Gold Medals and 425 PhD Degrees Awarded
This special convocation recognised academic achievements from 2020 to 2024:
Gold Medals (2020–2023): 178 Awarded

- 85 – Batch of 2021
- 41 – Batch of 2022
- 39 – Batch of 2023
PhD Degrees (2020–2024): 425 Awarded
- 71 – Batch of 2020

A key highlight was the remarkable performance of female scholars, who secured PhD degrees and Gold Medals at nearly three times the rate of their male counterparts.
Lt Governor Manoj Sinha’s Address: Embracing Change in Higher Education
In his Convocation Address, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha emphasized the need for a skill-first curriculum, interdisciplinary collaboration, and adapting to emerging trends in education.
He urged faculty members to align teaching with the evolving needs of India’s economy and society.
The LG also shared five guiding principles for students to follow in their professional journey and praised the University for its strong commitment to academic excellence.
He extended special congratulations to the women achievers for their outstanding performance across disciplines.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah: “A Moment of Pride and Reflection”
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah congratulated all graduates, Gold Medal recipients, and PhD awardees.
He described the convocation as a moment of pride, celebration, and reflection for the entire institution.
He reminded the students that while the convocation marks the end of years of learning, it also begins a new chapter filled with purpose, challenges, and opportunities.
The CM also commended the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Umesh Rai, praising the University’s efforts in fostering innovation, academic excellence, and holistic development.

Presenting the academic report, VC Prof. Umesh Rai highlighted several innovative initiatives:
- Design Your Degree (DYD) – A flagship flexible education model
- College on Wheels – A unique experiential learning programme
- Expansion of research through internal R&D, SEED, and transdisciplinary grants
- Major external funding received from UGC, DST, DBT, CSIR
He also announced the launch of an Integrated UG-PG Programme from the next academic session, focusing on skills, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
