Things to know about Electric buses which soon going to ply in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir government is set to run electric buses in the state. Certainly electric buses will help reduce pollution in the state and especially in big cities of the state. And even if they fail to do so, at least they should be able to control the menace of matadors in Jammu. Here are some things to know about the project:electric buses jammu kashmir

At first, 40 electric buses are going to be introduced by the Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation, JKSRTC, at a cost of Rs 40 crore.

Each bus will have a seating capacity of 35-40 passengers.

The announcement of the initiative was made by Dr. Asgar Samoon, Principal Secretary Transport Department.

Other initiatives to be taken by the JKSRTC, along with the e-bus service, include

  • Online passenger reservation system, OPRS
  • Installation of GPS in the fleet of JKSRTC
  • Introduction of centralised payroll system
  • Digital fuel management system
  • Installation of CCTV cameras in JKSRTC vehicles

Himachal Pradesh is the first state in India to start electric bus service.

In India almost 7 crore people travel by bus, of this about 60 per cent are carried by state transport buses.
