The Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) has released the Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026 notification for 70 backlog vacancies across 24 disciplines under the Higher Education Department (HED), Jammu & Kashmir. Eligible candidates can submit their online applications from 01 August 2026 to 31 August 2026 through the official website of JKPSC.

The recruitment drive is specially conducted for Assistant Professor posts in Government Degree Colleges of Jammu & Kashmir. Candidates having a relevant Master’s Degree with NET/SLET/SET or PhD qualification can apply as per the eligibility criteria mentioned in the official notification.

JKPSC Assistant Professor Vacancy 2026 Details

The recruitment includes 70 backlog vacancies in different subjects. The vacancies are distributed among 24 disciplines including Political Science, Statistics, Punjabi, Sociology, Chemistry, Information Technology and other subjects.

Highest vacancies are available for Political Science (23 posts), followed by Punjabi (6 posts) and Statistics (7 posts).

JKPSC Assistant Professor Eligibility Criteria 2026

Candidates applying for these posts must fulfil the required educational qualification, age limit and domicile conditions.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have:

• A Master’s Degree with 55% marks in the relevant subject from a recognised university.
• 50% marks relaxation is applicable for eligible reserved categories and certain PhD holders.
• Qualified UGC NET/CSIR NET/SLET/SET, or
• Possess a valid PhD Degree as per UGC regulations.

For subjects where NET is not conducted, candidates may apply according to the rules mentioned in the official notification.

Music Subject Special Eligibility

For Music discipline, candidates may also qualify if they are recognised traditional/professional artists with:

• Significant achievement in the subject
• “A” Grade Artist status from AIR/Doordarshan
• Ability to teach theory with practical demonstrations

Age will be calculated as on 01 January 2026.

Candidates must upload valid category certificates to claim reservation benefits.

Selected candidates will receive an attractive government pay scale.
