In an inspiring display of leadership and fitness, Chief Minister, Jammu & Kashmir, Omar Abdullah not only inaugurated the Jammu Marathon 2026 but also actively participated in the 21 km Half Marathon, running alongside thousands of participants. Wearing BIB No. 1, he completed the race with an impressive finish time of 01:53:01 and maintained a steady chip pace of 5:22 min/km. His performance earned him an overall rank of 157 out of 584 runners, 142 out of 504 in the male category, 21st among 50+ male participants, and 91st among J&K male runners—setting a strong example of commitment to fitness and sportsmanship.

Rain Fails to Dampen Enthusiasm

Early morning showers couldn’t shake the determination of participants. Instead, the rain added a refreshing challenge, making the event even more memorable. From amateurs to seasoned athletes, everyone ran with unmatched energy and enthusiasm.

Participants, including international runners, appreciated the initiative. A runner from Kenya said, “The race was nice, but the weather was a challenge. It is the first edition and a good start. Organisers can improve it further next time.”

The marathon kicked off at sunrise from the iconic M A Stadium, offering three exciting race formats:

  • 🏃 10 km Fitness Run – For fitness enthusiasts
  • 🎉 5 km Fun Run – Open to all age groups

With a massive prize pool of ₹1.33 crore, the event attracted competitive runners from across India and beyond.

Celebrity Power & Festive Vibes

The marathon wasn’t just about running—it was a full-fledged celebration. Popular fitness icon Milind Soman and his wife Ankita Konwar participated in the 21-km run, inspiring many with their dedication.

Bollywood actress Gul Panag attended the flag-off ceremony, adding glamour to the event.

The festive atmosphere was amplified by live performances from singers Kamal Khan and Prateek Narula, turning the marathon into a celebration of culture, music, and community.

Adding a personal touch, the Chief Minister’s sons, Zahir and Zamir, also joined the run. Several legislators, MLAs, and senior officials actively participated, highlighting strong government support for promoting fitness and youth engagement.

Sports Minister Satish Sharma captured the spirit of the event perfectly:

“Even in this rainy weather, the enthusiasm is unmatched. This marathon reflects brotherhood, love, harmony, and our fight against drugs. We are Dogra warriors—we stand strong against every storm.”

He also emphasized a broader vision:

“While some promote conflict, Jammu & Kashmir is becoming a hub of tourism and sports.”
