Weather in Jammu & Kashmir

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a fresh weather alert, predicting another wet spell across Jammu and Kashmir starting March 26. After experiencing multiple rounds of rain and snowfall earlier this month, the region is once again preparing for fluctuating weather conditions that may impact daily life, travel, and farming activities.

Weather Forecast from March 26 to March 28 in Jammu & Kashmir

According to officials, the weather from March 26 to 28 will remain generally cloudy across most parts of the Union Territory. Light rainfall and snowfall are expected at a few locations, particularly during the afternoon hours. While the precipitation may not be intense, residents should still remain cautious, especially in areas prone to sudden weather changes.

March 29 to March 31: Increased Rain, Snow & Strong Winds

The weather conditions are expected to intensify between March 29 and March 31. During this period, cloudy skies will dominate, with light to moderate rainfall in plains and snowfall in higher reaches at several places.

Additionally, thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 km/h are likely to occur. These conditions may disrupt normal activities, particularly in hilly and mountainous regions. Authorities have urged people to stay updated with local forecasts and advisories.

Early April Outlook: Cloudy Skies Continue

From April 1 to April 4, the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy. Although no major weather disturbances have been predicted during this period, intermittent cloud cover may persist, indicating lingering atmospheric instability.

Advisory Issued: Snowfall, Thunder & Lightning Warning

The MeT department has issued a detailed advisory highlighting potential risks during this wet spell. Moderate snowfall is likely in higher altitudes, while thunder, lightning, and gusty winds may affect several areas between the night of March 28 and the forenoon of March 31.

Such conditions can lead to temporary disruptions, including reduced visibility, slippery roads, and possible delays in transportation services.

Farmers Advised to Pause Agricultural Activities

In light of the forecast, farmers across Jammu & Kashmir have been strongly advised to suspend farm operations on March 26 and again between March 29 and March 31. Sudden rain, snowfall, and strong winds can damage crops and hinder agricultural work. Taking precautionary measures during this period can help minimize potential losses.

Travel Advisory: Plan Your Journey Carefully

Travelers and commuters are also advised to exercise caution. Officials recommend following traffic advisories and planning journeys in advance, especially during the peak disturbance period. Mountain roads and highways may experience disruptions due to snowfall and reduced visibility.

The upcoming weather changes highlight the importance of preparedness. With rain, snowfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds expected across Jammu & Kashmir, residents should stay informed through official updates and avoid unnecessary travel during adverse conditions.

By taking timely precautions, both locals and visitors can navigate this wet spell safely while minimizing disruptions to their daily routines.
