The state government is pushing to make the competitive exams for the Kashmir Administrative Service similar to the civil service examinations, like for, the Indian Administrative Services.
If such a move is taken, it will help candidates from the state appear for both the exams with ease. They’d be relieved of preparing separately for both the exams differently.
According to a news report by Greater Kashmir, the proposal has been approved by CM Mehbooba Mufti.
Under the proposed pattern, the candidates will have to appear in the civil service aptitude test during the Preliminary examination and choose only one optional subject during the Mains test.

On the lines of CSE, the state’s examination would be conducted in two phases—a preliminary examination consisting of two objective-type papers (general studies and aptitude test), and a main examination consisting of nine papers of conventional (essay type), followed by a personality test (interview).
The candidates registered under the already advertised seats by the PSC will not be considered under the proposed pattern.
Though the two exams will be similar, but the state PSC candidates will still find 20-30 percent questions regarding the history and geography of the state.
It is worth noting that almost all the other states have adopted the UPSC pattern.
