Union Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, released the first edition of the Dogri version of the Constitution of India at the University of Jammu. The event was attended by Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, Justice Kotishwar Singh, Senior Judges of the High Court, Vice Chancellor of Jammu University, Prof Umesh Rai, and senior functionaries from the Central government and J&K administration.

During the event, the Minister emphasized the significance of the translated document in dispensing justice to common people. He stated that understanding the law is essential in accessing justice, and having it codified in one’s mother tongue is the best way to achieve this.

The Minister also acknowledged that although the task of translating the Constitution into Dogri was accomplished a bit late after enshrining Dogri language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution back in 2003, furthering its impact among people should not be delayed any further.

In his welcome address, Vice Chancellor of Jammu University, Prof Umesh Rai, highlighted that the document is a joint accomplishment of the Department of Law, Government of India, and the University, which came to fruition after three years of hard work.

Overall, the release of the Dogri version of the Constitution of India is a significant step towards making the law more accessible to the common people, and it is a testament to the government’s commitment to promoting linguistic diversity and inclusivity.
