The latest figures of the J&K Police show an increase in domestic violence and matrimonial disputes in Jammu.
As many as 2,402 complaints related to domestic violence have been reported in Jammu in the past one-and-a-half years. In a majority of the cases, mental and physical harassment is the main reason attributed by the complainant.
In 2016, out of 1,359 cases, 1,239 were resolved and 67 were taken to court. In 2017, out of 1,073 cases, 746 were resolved and 43 were legally handled. The figure rose sharply to 1,665 in 2018 at the Women Police Station, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, and 737 complaints were lodged till June 2019.
