Just few days after the news broke out about the shelving of the Tawi Lake Project, the state government and the relevant minister have come to save their skin. Minister for PHE, I&FC Sham Choudhary has announced that the project will be finished in the next four months.
Originally, sanctioned in the year 1986, the project has been consistently delayed by successive governments. What hurdle could be bigger than Pakistan! Even a team of experts from Indus Water Commission, Pakistan had okayed the project long before 2012. Let’s wait for another four months to see what fate has the project got reserved for it.
Meanwhile, here are some major benefits of Tawi Lake Project; if in case it does get completed:
- It will raise water table, i.e. ground water level will rise in the surrounding areas.
- The collected water from the lake will be sent through canals to RS Pura, Ramgarh and Bishnah areas for irrigation.
- It will become a centre for water sports and other leisure activities for Jammuites.
- And obviously, it will beautify the city and encourage tourist influx to the city.
