In the wake of mounting death toll in violence following conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh by a special CBI court in a rape case. Many from Kashmir society and other intellectual circles questioned as to why pellets were not used on Ram Rahim’s violent mob. Such elements with distorted vision and minds are questioning as to why they were not met with pellet guns even though they’ve caused colossal damage on lines of Kashmiri stone pelters. Had the advocates of violence and sympathisers of anti-national elements kept in mind the following points, they might not have compared the two violent mobs

Stone pelters are in a one-on-one fight against the sovereignty of the nation and the forces deployed to maintain peace. On the other hand, Ram Rahim’s followers could be called as rogue elements and violent mob only.

When was the last time one heard of 36 stone pelters dying in a day at the hands of Indian forces? In Ram Rahim’s case, his mob was treated just as any violent mob should be!

While Ram Rahim’s mob was disorganised with no foreign funding to back them, the stone pelters are heavily influenced by outside forces; their stones are aimed only at security forces- the peacekeepers. Though this does not justify the act of Ram Rahim’s mob yet it can’t be ruled out that they were dealt strictly and we are happy for it.
