Recently the upgraded passenger terminal building of Jammu Airport was inaugurated. The upgraded passenger terminal will provide more facilities to passengers besides giving modern look to the airport.

While everybody talks about the inauguration ceremony, here are 8 facts you ought to know about it:

  1. During the year 2016-17, passenger traffic movement at Jammu Airport reached 1.16 million and the passenger growth rate has touched 29 per cent in the first quarter of 2017-18.   2. Up-gradation of Jammu airport terminal is of RS. 90 crore project was actually started in 2014 and has been completed in time.
  3. One big disadvantage of the present Jammu airport is that it is too close to Pakistan border and extraordinary care is to be taken by the pilots while taking off or landing at this airport. There is not much scope of its expansion owing to security reasons.upgraded airport Jammu
  4. Jammu Airport belongs to the Indian Air Force, Ministry of Defence and AAI maintains a Civil Enclave for civil aircraft operations.
  5. The area of the terminal building is expanded from 6700 square meters to 14,500 square meters with an upgraded peak hour handling capacity of 720 passengers at a time, an increase from the existing 360 peak hour passengers.
  6. For the safety and security of passengers, the terminal building is equipped with fire fighting and a fire alarm system, CCTV and baggage scanners etc.
  7.   8. The green features incorporated in the passenger terminal building include rain water harvesting, re use of treated water for horticulture, low heat gain glazing, LED lighting. The terminal would have a peak hour handling capacity of 720 passengers with 21 check in counters, seven X-ray machines, six frisking booths, three escalators, two elevators and three passenger boarding bridges are expected to be commissioned by March next year.
